Ratio & Elemental Force

Perspectives IX – Ratio & Elemental Force

Under this title, a profound dialogue unfolds, confronting the calculated, geometric precision of the Italian ZERO master Agostino Bonalumi with the archaic, informal natural power of Joan Costa.
In this exhibition, Bonalumi represents pure "Ratio". His famous, intensely monochrome relief structures break open the two-dimensionality of the canvas with mathematical elegance. Through precise underlays, he shapes the scarlet surface into a flawless, sculptural skin that bends light and exudes a rational purism.
This calculated minimalism is countered by Joan Costa's steel sculpture “Posidonia”—the embodiment of "Elemental Force". Costa uses rigid metal to capture the fluid, untamed movement of maritime seagrass. His sculpture feels raw, intuitive, and deeply informal, like an archaic fragment sculpted by the element of water itself.
