Collectives III - Thalassa & The Unconscious

Thalassa & The Unconscious examines the tension between the marine natural space (Thalassa) and the deep structures of the human psyche (The Unconscious). The conceptual framework confronts maritime subjects and Balearic landscape discourses with positions of Surrealism and expressive abstraction.
Maritime Dynamism and Materiality
The exhibition analyzes the visual representation of the Mediterranean space: Judith Sturm deconstructs the underwater world into meditative, circular color fields in her Lagoons, while Joan Costa uses a biomorphic white marble sculpture to translate the organic form of Posidonia seagrass meadows into the medium of sculpture. The artist duo Römer+Römer fragments the dynamics of breaking waves in the style of contemporary Neo-Pointillism. A monumental counterpoint is formed by the large-scale work of Joan Riera Ferrari: his relief-like, tactile application of material transforms the hull of a container ship from an industrial object into a membrane marked by tectonic traces, salt, and oxidation.
Topographies of the Unconscious
These observations of nature are juxtaposed with the psychological dimensions of the unconscious. The iconic works of H.R. Giger, Salvador Dalí, and Ernst Fuchs recur to dream worlds, mythologies, and the visual grammar of Fantastic Realism. This discourse is complemented by the gestural, eruptive color intensity of Enrique Fuentes and the expansive, non-objective paintings of Sinasi Bozatli.
